The Buzzard Mountain Boys |
Joe Matteson and Jim White are The Buzzard Mountain Boys. These guys play an amusing selection of Brother Duet and Old-Time music that will warm your heart and take you back to the days of the traveling minstrels! Both musicians are residents of Lumpkin County and are fixtures in the North Georgia traditional music community and heavily involved in the promotion of Appalachian Music! They recently performed in Doc Johnson’s Traveling Miracle Medicine Show for the 12th Annual Bear on the Square Festival! Joe is an accomplished mandolin, guitar, and tenor-banjo player. His Monroe style mandolin breaks and fiery banjo strumming will set your toes to tapping. He has played in several bluegrass and old-time ensembles through the years. Jim plays a lively fiddle and sets the rhythm with his solid guitar work. Brother duet harmony is their forte and takes you back to the roots of bluegrass and rockabilly. A sprinkling of good natured humor peppers their performances. Jim is the co-chair of the Bear on the Square Mountain Festival, a charter board member of Georgia Pick and Bow Traditional Music School Program, an advisory board member of the Appalachian Studies Center of NGCSU, and the on-site administrator of the Dahlonega Appalachian Jam. Joe has served many years as the VP of the Bear on the Square Mountain Festival and is the co-producer of Dahlonega's own Mountain Music and Medicine Show, which recently began regular airing on GPR. |
