Dahlonega's Greybeard has an eclectic repertoire, "Bluegrass & Beyond," ranging from old time to gospel, blues to jazz, rock 'n roll, even a few notes of classical here and there, along with plenty of straight-ahead bluegrass.
Rees Chapman, a local psychologist, plays the double bass and acoustic guitar. Master fiddler Bob Christmas is a retired obstetrician, sailboat restorer, and world traveler. Home brewing enthusiast and environmental chemist Greg Jones plays lead guitar. Mandolin, guitar and bass are provided by artist and entrepreneur Robert Jones. And everybody sings under the strict (described jokingly by one band member as sometimes painful) tutelage and direction of information-systems guru Ray McCurdy, who also plays banjo, guitar and harmonica.
In past years, Greybeard has been the featured band for Bear on the Square Live Country Auction on Friday night. This year, Greybeard joins the festival’s Sunday lineup of performers in the MainStage Tent. |
